St Chad’s Community Centre uses CCTV to help keep our visitors, volunteers, hirers, and the building safe. This page explains, in simple terms, how CCTV operates at the centre and how footage is managed.

CCTV is in operation throughout the building and car park for:
Safety and security
Protecting the building and assets
Preventing and detecting crime
Supporting investigations into incidents, safeguarding concerns, or complaints
Some cameras may also record audio where necessary for safety or safeguarding. Clear signage is displayed wherever audio recording may take place.
CCTV covers:
Entrances and exits
Car park
Internal corridors
Main hall and community rooms (where appropriate)
Cameras are positioned carefully to avoid private areas and to ensure recording is proportionate and necessary.
Footage is retained in line with our approved retention schedule:
General CCTV footage: 21–30 days
Incident‑related footage: kept only as long as necessary for investigation or legal purposes
Footage is automatically deleted when no longer required.
Access is strictly limited to authorised personnel:

Footage is only viewed when legally justified, including:
Incident or safeguarding investigations
Suspected criminal activity
Lawful police or regulatory requests
Valid Subject Access Requests (SARs)
All access is logged using our CCTV Access Log Sheet.
Individuals may request footage in which they appear. To do this, you must:
Submit a written request
Provide the date, time, and location of the incident
Provide proof of identity
Requests should be emailed to: stchadscommittee@gmail.com
We respond within one month of receiving a valid request.
Footage containing other identifiable individuals may require redaction.
You can also use our CCTV Incident Request Form if you are reporting an incident.
Footage is stored on a secure, password‑protected system
Only authorised personnel have access
Exported footage is encrypted and transferred securely
Footage is never shared with hirers or the public unless legally required
Clear signage is displayed at all entrances and relevant areas. Signs include:
Notification that CCTV is in operation
Notification that some cameras may record audio
Purpose of recording
